GIVE! Sri Swami Sivananda Give, Give, Give in plenty, in humility and with joy. Thus in the very process of giving enrich yourself too. If a man, who has not removed jealousy, back-biting, hatred, pride, selfishness says "I am meditating for six hours daily," it is all nonsense. There is no hope of getting into a meditative mood even after a year unless a man removes all these Vritti’s and purifies his mind first by selfless service at least for six months. Excel in Service, Expand in Love, Advance in Knowledge Service is Love in expression, Love is concentrated Knowledge, Knowledge is diffused love. Give to the poor, the sick, the helpless and the forlorn. Give to orphans, he decrypts, the blind, the helpless widows. If you give, the whole wealth of the world will be yours. This is the secret of abundance and divine life. Therefore, give, give, give! You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give. Give in plenty, you will enjoy peace and prosperity. You will attain purity of heart. You can experience an indescribable thrill of divine ecstasy and spiritual bliss. This will give you tremendous inner strength. Radiate thoughts of good-will and share what you have with others. Disseminate spiritual knowledge to one and all. Use material wealth, knowledge, spiritual wisdom that you possess, as a divine trust for the benefit of His children. Prayer takes you halfway to God, fasting to the door of His Supreme Abode, and charity procures your admission. Doing abundant, spontaneous and unrestrained charity to relieve the pains of suffering humanity is an effective means to destroy negative traits. If you give, the whole wealth of the world will be yours! This is the immutable, inexorable law of nature. Have a simple and unassuming way of life. Live not to eat, but eat to live. Bear no envy. Commit no slander. Speak no falsehood. Practise no deceit. Harbour no malice. You will be ever joyful, happy and peaceful. Righteousness is the rule of life. Lead a virtuous life. Adhere to dharma. Human life is not human without virtues. The salt of life is selfless service. The bread of life is universal love. Life is not fully lived, life has not been fully realized, if you do not serve and love the entire humanity. The secret of true life is in the love of God and the service of humanity. Live to help others! The divine power will stream through you as a life-giving force. Study the lives of saints and draw inspiration from them. Cultivate a melting heart, a giving hand, kindly speech, a life of service, equal vision and an impartial attitude. Serve, love, give, purify, meditate. Your journey will take you into a new realm of infinite bliss. You will discover shining treasures. You will rediscover God. You will be strong, healthy, free, happy and peaceful. You will inspire and bless all whose lives you touch. Make life a perpetual joy. Derive joy from satya, truth, from tapas, austerity, from daya, compassion, from daan, giving. Lead a simple, regulated life. Lead a hard life. Take hold of each day as if it were the last, and utilize every second in prayer, meditation and service. Let your life become a continuous sacrifice to God. Live in the present. Forget the past. Give up hopes of the future. Understand well the meaning of life, and then start the quest. Life is thy greatest gift. Utilize every second profitably. Expand. Evolve. Have a large heart. Mix with all. Be kind and compassionate. Be pure and gentle. Be sweet and loving. Be sympathetic. Be friendly to the poor. Live with them. Serve them. Cheer them up when they are in difficulties. Perceive the immanence of God in all objects. All torment will disappear. You will enjoy supreme Peace.
